I was first introduced to clean skincare when I was working at Parc Shop in Minneapolis. Parc carried Alder NY, Herbivore Botanicals, French Girl Organics + a few others that opened my world to the clean beauty space. Looking back, I don’t remember having much of a skincare routine at that time, but was majorly struggling with eczema on my face, hands, legs + scalp, and I was desperate for something to relieve the irritation and inflammation from it. Herbivore Botanicals has a face oil called Emerald Oil, and it was the first product I purchased in hopes to help heal it. It worked for me, almost instantly, and sparked my interest in exploring clean skincare further.
Since then, I have tried countless products in the clean beauty space — make-up, skincare, and haircare — and wanted to share the ones I’ve tried that have truly made a difference for me.
I’m definitely not an expert, and I’m not always perfect at vetting through the ingredients, but I try my best!
Facial Oils —
Facial oils have been so transformational and soothing to my eczema, and when living in such cold, dry climates during the winter, I think everyone could benefit from introducing one to their routine. Some of my very favorites are
Emerald Oil & Lapis Oil from Herbivore Botanicals
Seabuckthorn Cleansing Moisturizer from Living Libations
CEO Glow from Sunday Riley
Some facial oils I would love to try are:
Pure Radiance Oil from True Botanicals (very $$$)
Super Serum from Sonsie
Hydrabarrier Nourishing Face Oil from OLEHENRIKSEN
Cleansers —
Cleansers can be really drying and further irritate eczema, so I’ve tried to be really careful with them. My very favorite thing to wash my face with is the Charcoal Bar Soap from Herbivore Botanicals — I find that it’s not only more economical and sustainable, but simply just does the trick—no fuss. If you are wanting a more traditional cleanser, my other favorites are:
Charcoal Bar Soap from Herbivore Botanicals
Cleansing Moisturizer from Living Libations
Matcha Hemp Cleanser from Krave Beauty
Soothing Oat and Peptide Cleanser from Murad (which has specifically been working to sooth / relieve eczema with their products)
Clarifying Cleansing Powder from JUNOCO
Moisturizers —
Pink Cloud from Herbivore Botanicals
Skin Barrier Strengthening Moisturizer with Peptides and Niacinamide from OLEHENRIKSEN
Nourishing Moisturizer for Skin Barrier from Sephora Collection
Misc. Products I Love —
Body Oil from Bambi Soulcare
Coconut Milk Bath Soak from Herbivore Botanicals
Undaria Algae Body Butter from OSEA
Lip Butter Balm in Vanilla Beige from Summer Fridays
Dew Drops from Three Ships
Awake Rose Hydrosol Toner from Three Ships
Rose Glow Complexion Mist from Living Libations
Blue Tansy AHA + BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask from Herbivore Botanicals
+ lots more that I am likely forgetting.
Clean beauty has genuinely changed my life, and although that might seem silly to some, I mean it. Fall through Spring used to be such a miserable time for my skin as the dryer air made my eczema flare up so much. Now I’m able to tame it with clean, soothing products. What I eat and staying hydrated definitely play a part, but I’ve noticed the biggest difference when I maintain a skincare routine.
If you have any clean skincare products you swear by, I’d love to hear what they are — I’m always so excited to try new things in the clean beauty space. And in case you’re intrigued by any of these, I created a Locker collection ~ clean beauty ~ with all of these products to keep them organized in one place!
